Press release

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has reported that sanitation workers in the Dairut district of Assiut, located in southern Egypt, announced a strike on Saturday, August 3rd, demanding permanent employment contracts and the implementation of the minimum wage.

The workers have voiced their frustration, stating that their salaries are not paid on time like other state employees and that their wages do not exceed 800 EGP despite working long hours in extremely hot conditions.

Through social media, the workers have called on Assiut’s Governor, Major General Hisham Abu Nasr, to intervene and address their legitimate demands.

CFJ has expressed its solidarity with the sanitation workers in Dairut, urging the Egyptian Ministry of Labor to intervene, provide protection, and assist the workers in securing their basic labor rights. CFJ also calls on officials to respond to the workers’ requests.
