The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of political detainee Hamdy Mohamed Ahmed Abdel‑Haq (69 years old) inside his place of detention at Minya High‑Security Prison on 16 April 2026, after approximately one and a half years of pretrial detention in connection with a Supreme State Security case.
According to CFJ’s documentation, Abdel‑Haq was buried the following day in his hometown in Itsa Center, Fayoum Governorate.
It is noted that Abdel‑Haq had been held in connection with a case under the jurisdiction of the Supreme State Security Prosecution, without a hearing being scheduled to consider his case, despite its referral to trial some time ago.
With this case, the number of deaths documented by the Committee for Justice since the beginning of 2026 inside prisons and detention facilities in Egypt has risen to 21 deaths, following the documentation of 60 deaths during 2025.
