Press Release
The “Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has condemned the referral of human rights lawyer Huda Abd El-Monem to criminal trial under Case No. 800 of 2019, on the same charges she had previously been convicted for, serving a five-year prison sentence.
CFJ noted that this decision has sparked widespread controversy, especially following her recycled detention under Case No. 730 of 2020 and her subsequent re-arrest immediately after completing her sentence in Case No. 1552 of 2018. This cycle of detention is viewed as a continuation of the legal harassment against her.
Abd El-Monem (66 years old) suffers from deteriorating health conditions, including atrophy of her left kidney, chronic blood clots, knee osteoarthritis, recurrent respiratory crises, and middle ear inflammation. She requires continuous medical care. Despite her visibly worsening health, she remains in detention without adequate medical treatment.
CFJ” rejects the arbitrary measures taken against Huda Abd El-Monem and calls for her immediate and unconditional release. The committee also warns Egyptian authorities of the severe humanitarian and health consequences of her prolonged detention.
