Press release

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has monitored that on Sunday, August 25th, Egyptian security forces arrested 10 workers from Wabaryat Samannoud Company, including 4 female workers.

This came after the company’s workers declared a strike on Sunday, August 18th, following several demands to the company’s management for the implementation of the minimum wage. They also called for the enforcement of the Minister of Public Enterprises’ decision to apply the minimum wage to all workers in companies affiliated with the sector.

The strike involved workers being present during their shifts without performing their duties until the end of their work hours, after which they would return home.

On Saturday, August 24th, the workers announced that they were turning their strike into a sit-in inside the company premises, which led to the arrest of some of them and their interrogation at the National Security headquarters in El-Mahalla El-Kubra. Their fate remains unknown at this time.

– Calls to Stop Security Measures:

CFJ expresses its full solidarity with the workers’ legitimate demands amid the economic crisis facing the country. CFJ also supports their right to strike, as guaranteed by the Egyptian Constitution and international conventions and treaties that Egypt has signed and is obligated to enforce concerning labor matters.

CFJ urges the company’s management to enter into negotiations with the workers and to refrain from resorting to security measures to pressure them into ending their strike. CFJ advocates for finding solutions that enable the workers to achieve their demands lawfully while ensuring the continued operation of the company’s factories.
