Committee for Justice is launching its second training for the Sudan Task Force on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in Kampala, Uganda, with the participation of 20 women and men human rights defenders representing ten Sudanese organizations engaged in human rights documentation, advocacy, and protection work.
The two-day training is organized in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). It aims to strengthen the capacity of Sudanese civil society organizations to engage effectively with Sudan’s upcoming UPR cycle, including through stakeholder submissions, advocacy with Member States, recommendation drafting, and follow-up strategies.
The training comes as part of Committee for Justice’s continued efforts to support Sudanese civil society in using international and regional human rights mechanisms, particularly in light of the grave violations taking place in Sudan and the urgent need to ensure that the voices of victims, survivors, and human rights defenders are reflected in international processes.
Over the course of the training, participants will examine the full UPR cycle, including civil society engagement before, during, and after the review. Sessions will focus on preparing evidence-based submissions, developing advocacy messages, engaging with diplomatic missions and UN actors, and using UPR outcomes for monitoring, accountability, and sustained advocacy.
Committee for Justice emphasized that this training represents another step toward building a coordinated and effective Sudanese civil society engagement strategy around the UPR process.
The organization also underlined the importance of cooperation with OHCHR in supporting meaningful civil society participation and strengthening the ability of Sudanese organizations to translate documentation and field-based evidence into practical recommendations for international action.
