The Committee for Justice will organize a side event titled “Sudan in Crisis: Strengthening Civil Society Engagement with the ACHPR-AU and UN Fact-Finding Missions.”
The event will take place on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, 2:30 PM Gambia time, at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Kololi.
Held on the margins of the 87th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the event will provide a space for Sudanese and regional civil society organizations to provide a brief update on the human rights situation in Sudan, and ways to strengthen protection, documentation, accountability, and practical engagement with relevant African and UN mechanisms.
The event will feature:
- Hon. Commissioner Hatem Essaiem, Vice Chairperson of the ACHPR and Chairperson of the ACHPR-AU Joint Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan.
- Dr. Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, Member of the UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Sudan.
- Mohammed Abakar, Research Coordinator at AWAFY Sudanese Organization.
- Mohammed Adam Hassan, Executive Director of Darfur Network for Human Rights.
- Ramatoulie Jallow, Regional Research and Advocacy Officer at SIHA Network.
- Noura Mohamed, Program Coordinator at Sudan Defenders.
The event will be moderated by Usame Mehmetoglu, Regional Officer at the Committee for Justice.
