As part of its continuous monitoring of the legal developments related to key human rights cases in Egypt, the Committee for Justice (CFJ) has released weekly bulletin summarizing updates on major cases. The bulletin, published via political case agenda, was designed to facilitate access to information on the dates of hearings and the latest developments in human rights cases in a simplified format. The updates for the period from February 15 to 20, 2025, are as follows:

– Details: The First Criminal Court of First Instance, presided over by Judge Mohamed Said El-Sherbiny, decided to adjourn the trial of 21 defendants in Case No. 374 of 2024, Supreme State Security Felonies, known in the media as the “Beheira Cell,” to February 16 for the presence of the defense. It is noteworthy that 10 of the 21 defendants in this case are in custody.

– Details: The First Terrorism Circuit of the Emergency State Security Court, presided over by Judge Mohamed Said El-Sherbiny, decided to adjourn the retrial of defendant Ibrahim Obeid Abdelwanis, the seventh defendant in the referral order of the case known in the media as the “Hesham Ashmawy Cell,” registered under No. 32 of 2021, Emergency State Security Felonies, Warraq, and No. 9 of 2021, North Giza General, as well as No. 385 of 2020, Supreme State Security Felonies, to March 16 for review and preparation for pleadings. It is noteworthy that the defendant had previously been sentenced in absentia to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for charges including joining and funding a terrorist group, participating in a criminal agreement, and possessing weapons and ammunition.
