Reading Time: Less than 1 minute Minutes

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) will convene a high-level side event on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, at 11:00 AM in Room XI at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, entitled “From Banjul to Geneva: Strengthening Coordination between African and United Nations Human Rights Mechanisms on Sudan.”

Held within the framework of the Addis Ababa Roadmap, the event will build on progress made in strengthening cooperation between the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan and the UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan, while broadening the dialogue to other regional and international mechanisms working on Sudan.

Speakers will include Hon. Commissioner Hatem Essaiem, Vice-Chairperson of the ACHPR and Head of its Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan; Mr. Radhouane Nouicer, Designated Expert on human rights in Sudan of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights; Dr. Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, Member of the UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan; and Ahmed Mefreh, Executive Director of the Committee for Justice (CFJ). The discussion will be moderated by Kholood Khair, Founding Director of Confluence Advisory.

The event will explore practical opportunities for stronger complementarity in civilian protection, documentation, accountability and victims’ rights, while ensuring that Sudanese civil society, victims and affected communities remain at the centre of regional and international responses.
