The Committee for Justice (CFJ) expressed deep concern over the arrest of Mohannad Hassan Issa, an activist with the El-Obeid Resistance Committees, by the security cell in El-Obeid, without presenting any legal justification or warrant. The Committee considers this practice a serious violation of civil freedoms and an erosion of human rights in North Kordofan State.
According to available information, a security force raided the activist’s home in the Karima neighborhood and took him to the premises of the security cell affiliated with the Sudanese Armed Forces and allied security agencies. No official information has been provided regarding his whereabouts or charges, causing severe anxiety among his family and the local community.
CFJ stressed that these practices contradict Sudan’s international obligations, including the Basic Principles on the Protection of All Persons from Arbitrary Detention, the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which guarantees the right to liberty and personal security.
The Committee warned that the continuation of such violations threatens social peace, particularly as the detainee was among those who contributed to relief efforts and supported local communities during the conflict, making his targeting a dangerous step against civil and humanitarian work.
CFJ called for the immediate release of Mohannad Hassan Issa and all activists held unlawfully, and urged the opening of an independent investigation to clarify the circumstances of the arrest and prevent recurrence of such practices. The Committee also appealed to the international community and human rights organizations to intervene urgently to protect civil activists and humanitarian workers in conflict zones.
