Geneva – April 15, 2024

Forces affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan arrested human rights defender and Danish Council (DRC) director Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed (35 years old) in Um Dukhun locality in Central Darfur State on April 4, 2024.

Sources indicate that an armored vehicle belonging to the RSF arrived at Ahmed’s residence with seven armed individuals, some dressed in RSF attire, and forcibly took him under threat of weapons to an undisclosed location, preventing his family from contacting him.

Subsequent information revealed that the vehicle transporting Ahmed departed Um Dukhun to Kabar, Jaghul Al Gharbiya, and Furo Burnanga.

The RSF militias had previously summoned Ahmed. He was interrogated at the RSF headquarters in Um Dukhun, where he was accused of engaging in political activities in the region.

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) rejects the arrest of humanitarian aid distribution activist and rights advocate Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed in Um Dukhun. It demands the RSF militias in the area disclose his whereabouts and release him immediately and unconditionally.
