Sudan: CFJ condemns killing of activist Bashir Wad Zeina by ‘Rapid Support Forces’ and calls for investigation into circumstances of death

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has condemned the killing of Sudanese human rights defender and relief activist Bashir Mohamed Wad Zeina by security forces affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces in the neighborhoods of Al-Haj Yousif (a subsidiary of the Resistance Committees of One Street).

According to the Al-Haj Yousif Neighborhood Committees Assembly, the Rapid Support Forces militias opened fire on Wad Zeina on Thursday, May 9, 2024. Wad Zeina was an active relief worker in the area.

CFJ denounces the killing of Sudanese relief activist Bashir Wad Zeina and demands an impartial, transparent, and thorough investigation into the circumstances of his death, preventing the perpetrators of this crime from escaping justice.

CFJ also calls on the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan to cease targeting activists and human rights defenders, and to provide a conducive and safe environment for them to carry out their voluntary and rights-based work effectively and securely
