Geneva – March 4, 2024

Approximately 100 teachers staged a protest on Sunday, March 3, 2024, outside the executive offices of the General Authority for Adult Education in Cairo, Egypt. The protest aimed to press for the enforcement of final judicial rulings compelling the confirmation of their positions, a demand met with administrative delays from the Authority.

The teachers emphasized that judicial rulings obtained in 2021, 2022, and 2023 mandated their confirmation and contractual adjustments, yet the Authority continues to work on executing these decisions despite their persistent efforts.

This protest echoes a demonstration at the commission’s headquarters nine months ago. Despite assurances from the commission to address their demands in exchange for ending the previous vigil, the commitments remain unfulfilled, prompting the teachers to renew their protest.

Significantly, the Authority’s management has not implemented judicial rulings since 2020, even with the explicit approval of the Central Agency for Organization and Administration and the Ministry of Finance to amend the terms of appointment.

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) extends its unwavering support to the Public Authority for Adult Education teachers in their justifiable demands. CFJ calls on the Authority’s management to heed the legitimate requests of the teachers, uphold the sanctity of judicial rulings, and refrain from obstinacy in their implementation despite explicit approval from competent authorities, including the Ministry of Finance and the Organization and Administration Authority.
