The “Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has monitored the decision of the Al-Obour Misdemeanor Court in Qalyubia Governorate to release nine workers from T&C Garment Company, who had been arrested by security forces for participating in a labor strike, on bail of 2,000 EGP. However, concerns remain that the prosecution may appeal the decision, which could lead to the revocation of their release.
The company’s management had filed a complaint with the Al-Obour Prosecution, accusing 11 workers of disrupting production and going on strike since Saturday, January 18.
Following the complaint, the prosecution issued an arrest warrant for the accused workers, charging them with inciting the strike, engaging in the strike, causing disorder, and inflicting financial losses on the company. As a result, nine of them—who had been arrested—were placed in pretrial detention for four days.
The names of the released workers are:
- Mohamed Omara Ahmed Salem
- Abdel Rahman Mostafa El-Sayed
- Ahmed Hassan Abdel Aziz
- Mohamed Nabil Salem Mohamed
- Ibrahim Raafat El-Sayed
- Mohamed Mahmoud Abdel Wahab
- Islam Galal Khaled
- Mohamed Nasser Abdel Rahman
- Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Salam
CFJ calls for an end to security-based responses to the strike by T&C Garment Company workers in Al-Obour and urges constructive dialogue to reach solutions that satisfy all parties. The committee also calls on the Egyptian Ministry of Manpower to ensure workers’ protection and uphold their right to strike.
