Press Release
The “Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has monitored an escalation by Egyptian authorities against lawyer and human rights defender Okasha Mohamed Mohamed Abdullah, describing it as part of an ongoing campaign to suppress advocates for rights and freedoms in the country.
This escalation follows a decision by the prison administration to transfer and exile “Abdullah” to Wadi Al-Natrun Prison 440. This move has exacerbated the hardship faced by his family in visiting him, further complicating the conditions for political detainees and their families amidst a severe economic crisis.
On November 19, 2024, the Zagazig Criminal Court decided to renew Abdullah’s detention for an additional 45 days as part of investigations into Case No. 18125 of 2022, registered under the misdemeanors of Minya Al-Qamh.
CFJ expresses condemnation of these arbitrary measures against lawyer and human rights defender Okasha Abdullah. The committee calls for his immediate and unconditional release, an end to the targeting of human rights defenders, and a cessation of the use of pretrial detention as a tool of repression.
