Press Release
The “Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has monitored the referral of Egyptian human rights and community activist Radwa Yasser Sayed Mohamed Borai to trial in Case No. 2976 of 2021, known in the media as the “Our Kitchen Group” case.
This referral comes despite the ongoing struggle of the 22-year-old activist, a resident of Helwan in Cairo Governorate, with breast cancer—a life-threatening condition requiring urgent chemotherapy sessions and critical surgeries.
Radwa Yasser is well-known for her human rights and community advocacy. She began her voluntary efforts by assisting the poor and needy, which later expanded to supporting the families of political detainees. Her activism was inspired by personal experience, as her father was held in pretrial detention for eight years in the “Helwan Brigades” case before being acquitted.
CFJ expresses rejection of the decision to refer Radwa Yasser to trial and firm opposition to her appearance before an exceptional court, asserting that this measure violates international fair trial standards. The committee reiterates its call for her immediate release in light of her deteriorating critical health condition and holds the Egyptian authorities fully accountable for safeguarding her life and ensuring she receives the medical care necessitated by her circumstances.
