Less than 1 minute Reading Time: Minutes

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) is organizing a significant event in collaboration with several Egyptian NGOs as part of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of human rights in Egypt, which will be held at the United Nations in Geneva on Monday, January 28.

The event will take place at the Palais des Nations in Geneva on the same day as the UPR session, at 11:00 AM. Its objective is to shed light on the ongoing human rights crisis in Egypt and provide recommendations to address this crisis effectively.

Speakers will discuss the current state of human rights in Egypt, which has seen unprecedented deterioration. This includes widespread and systematic violations carried out by authorities to maintain the authoritarian military regime, contributing to the collapse of the Egyptian economy and increased reliance on foreign aid.

Participants will also address the reactions of Egyptian civil society to the national report submitted by Egyptian authorities for the UPR. They will present key recommendations on investigating violations, ensuring justice, and strengthening the rule of law and human rights in the country.

Several prominent human rights advocates from Egypt will speak at the event, including:

  • Sherif Aziz from the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms
  • Ahmed Attallah from the Egyptian Foundation for Human Rights
  • Samer El-Husseiny from the Egyptian Forum
  • Sanaa Seif
  • Jihad Khaled
  • Rasha Kandil
  • And the event will be moderated by Ahmed Mefreh, the Executive Director of CFJ.

This event is being held at a critical time when international concern over Egypt’s deteriorating human rights situation is growing. Civil society reports will be presented, highlighting the urgent need for concrete measures to improve conditions and achieve meaningful reform.
