Press Release

The “Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has monitored the arrest of Dr. Emad Saadallah, a cosmetic surgery consultant and opposition figure who was previously residing in the UAE. He was deported to Egypt following an Interpol notice issued a few days ago. Upon arrival, he was presented before the State Security Prosecution, which ordered his detention on multiple charges, including “disseminating and broadcasting false information” and “misuse of social media platforms.”

Dr. Emad Saadallah had previously announced his intention to run in Egypt’s 2024 presidential elections, which concluded with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi securing another term amid conditions described by international and UN entities as “undemocratic.”

CFJ expresses rejection of the arbitrary measures taken against Dr. Saadallah, calling on Egyptian authorities for his immediate and unconditional release and urging respect for his constitutionally and internationally guaranteed right to freedom of expression.

CFJ also criticizes the UAE authorities for deporting Dr. Saadallah, emphasizing that such action breaches international and UN laws prohibiting forced deportation. The committee cites specific legal provisions, including Article 3 of the Convention Against Torture, which prohibits the extradition of any individual to a country where they might face the risk of torture, and Article 13 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which guarantees the right to leave any country, including one’s own.
