Egypt: CFJ Documents the Distress Call of “Scimitar Petroleum” Workers Against Management and Urges the Minister of Manpower to Intervene for Justice and Legal Compliance

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented a distress call from the workers of Scimitar Petroleum in Egypt’s Eastern Desert, appealing for intervention to stop arbitrary measures taken against them by the company’s management. This comes after Egyptian Minister of Manpower, Mohamed Gebran, sided with the management against the workers’ demands.

According to the workers, the company’s current management, led by Islam El-Nashar, Operations Manager, and Mohamed Hesham Sadeq, Administrative Affairs Manager, is pursuing a policy aimed at reducing the workforce arbitrarily. This is allegedly being carried out by pressuring employees to submit resignations or accept meager financial compensation.

The workers stated that they have been left without income for two years due to ongoing wrongful terminations, which have devastated their livelihoods. Despite this, the minister has taken no action to support them, they claim.

For its part, CFJ reaffirms full solidarity with the workers’ demands and urges the Egyptian Ministry of Manpower to intervene to ensure justice and lift the injustice inflicted upon them. The committee also calls on the company’s management to cease its repressive actions, comply with Egyptian labor laws, and provide financial compensation for the damages suffered by the workers due to these unjust measures.
