The “Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has monitored the Supreme State Security Prosecution in Egypt referring a number of human rights defenders from Al-Sharqia Governorate, in the eastern Nile Delta, to the Criminal Court in connection with Case No. 2215 of 2021.

The committee reported that 32 defendants in this case have been referred to the Criminal Court, including several human rights defenders:

• Imam Mahmoud Imam Al-Shafi’i (Hehya Center).

• Mohamed Ezzat El-Sayed Ibrahim (Hehya Center).

• Mohamed Ibrahim Youssef Mohamed (Fakous Center).

• Fathy Mohamed Al-Taher Ghayati (Al-Ibrahimiyya Center).

• Abdel Wahab Fathy Mohamed Hassan (Abu Hammad Center).

• Atef Abdel Samie Ibrahim Taleb (Abu Hammad Center).

CFJ condemns the referral of these defenders to criminal trial and their overall targeting due to their human rights work. The committee calls for their release and the cessation of arbitrary measures against them. In the event of their trial, it demands that it be conducted before a court that meets internationally recognized standards of justice.
