The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of political detainee Tamer Saeed Abdel Aziz Ahmed, aged 45, inside Abu Zaabal 2 Prison, approximately 24 days after his detention in connection with Case No. 6462 of 2026.
According to available information, Tamer reportedly died following a sudden heart attack, raising questions regarding the circumstances of his death and whether he received adequate medical care during his detention.
The Committee for Justice emphasizes the importance of ensuring prompt and effective healthcare for all detainees and calls for a transparent clarification of the circumstances surrounding deaths occurring in places of detention, in accordance with applicable legal standards and safeguards.
With this case, the number of deaths documented by the Committee for Justice since the beginning of 2026 inside prisons and detention facilities in Egypt has risen to 50 deaths, following the documentation of 60 deaths during 2025.
