The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the killing and injury of dozens of civilians as a result of two separate drone attacks targeting civilian areas in North and South Kordofan States.
According to information documented by CFJ, an attack targeting civilians who were traveling in the Um Shoru area, northeast of Sodari locality in North Kordofan State, on 27 August 2026, resulted in the deaths of eight civilians and the injury of dozens of others, according to preliminary figures. The attack also destroyed four civilian vehicles. Available information further indicates that the drone returned to target civilians again while attempts were underway to evacuate and provide medical assistance to the wounded, in an area where there were no known military presences or armed confrontations.
CFJ also documented a separate drone attack in the city of Al‑Dilling in South Kordofan State, which struck the city market and several southern residential neighborhoods. According to preliminary field information, the attack killed three civilians and injured 14 others, including women and children.
Available information indicates that the victims were civilians and that the attacks caused widespread panic among residents, amid continuing attacks affecting markets, residential neighborhoods, and other civilian areas.
The Committee for Justice condemns the targeting of civilians and the repeated use of drone attacks in North and South Kordofan, particularly the reported re‑targeting of wounded civilians during efforts to evacuate and provide medical assistance. CFJ stresses that such acts constitute a violation of international humanitarian law and may, depending on the circumstances of each incident, amount to war crimes.
The Committee also warns of the worsening humanitarian and health situation in the affected areas as a result of ongoing hostilities, restrictions, and the lack of adequate medical services.
CFJ calls on all parties to the conflict to immediately cease attacks targeting civilians, markets, residential areas, and civilian objects, to ensure unimpeded access to humanitarian assistance and medical care for affected populations, and to conduct independent and effective investigations into these incidents. The Committee further calls for accountability for those responsible and for full compliance with obligations under international humanitarian law to protect civilians.
