The CFJ Issues Weekly Bulletin on Updates of Major Human Rights Cases for the Period from May 31 to June 12, 2025

As part of its ongoing monitoring of the legal situation related to key human rights cases in Egypt, the Committee for Justice (CFJ) has issued its weekly bulletin detailing the latest developments in major cases. The bulletin, published through its political case agenda, was launched to facilitate access to information regarding hearing dates and updates on human rights cases in a simplified and accessible format. Below are the updates for the period from May 31 to June 12, 2025:

 

1- Case Name: Al-Qahirah al-Jadidah Cell – Higher Administrative Committee – Structure of the Muslim Brotherhood

Date: Saturday, June 1, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The First Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the trial of 22 defendants in what is considered the largest terrorist cell in New Cairo, including 18 detained and four fugitives, commonly known as the “Al-Qahirah al-Jadidah Terrorist Cell,” to August 3, 2025, to continue defense arguments.

 

2- Case Name: Lone Wolves Cell

Date: Saturday, June 1, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The First Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, presided over by Judge Mohamed Sa’id El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the trial of defendant Islam Samir Mohamed Bakkar in case number 382/2024 Criminal High State Security Court, registered under number 11971/2024 Criminal Warrak Court, commonly known as the “Lone Wolves Cell,” to July 6, 2025, for prosecution’s closing arguments, with continued detention of the accused.

 

3- Case Name: Mura’bitin – Muslim Brotherhood Media Committees Affiliated Case

Date: Saturday, June 1, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The First Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, presided over by Judge Mohamed Sa’id El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 16 defendants in the “Mura’bitin” case, affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood media committees, case number 9640/2025 Criminal Haram, to July 7, 2025, for prosecution’s closing arguments.

 

4- Case Name: Forced Disappearance File

Date: Saturday, June 1, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The First Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, presided over by Judge Mohamed Sa’id El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 53 defendants in case number 6693/2024 Criminal Qatamiya, commonly known in media as the “Forced Disappearance File,” to August 16, 2025, for the attendance of the accused.

 

5- Case Name: Al-Nozha Events

Date: Sunday, June 2, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The First Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the retrial of defendant Ahmed Suleiman Ahmed Mohamed Suleiman in case number 25507/2013 Criminal Nozha, to August 4, 2025, for closing arguments. It is worth noting that the defendant had previously been sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment and placed under police surveillance for five years.

 

6- Case Name: Attack on Arab Ghneem Post Office

Date: Sunday, June 2, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The First Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 11 defendants in case number 23849/2024 Criminal Helwan, commonly known in media as the “Attack on Arab Ghneem Post Office,” to August 18, 2025, for review.

 

7- Case Name: Al-Nusra Front in Syria

Date: Sunday, June 2, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The First Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of six defendants in the case known as “Al-Nusra Front in Syria,” case number 8/2024 Criminal Bolak Abu El-Elaa, to July 19, 2025, for review.

 

8- Case Name: Terrorist Espionage Cell

Date: Sunday, June 2, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The First Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of four defendants in the case known as the “Terrorist Espionage Cell,” case number 19856/2024 Criminal Nasr City First, to August 3, 2025, for review.

 

9- Case Name: Trial of Motaz Matar, Mohamed Nasser, and Eight Others – Siege and Random Bombing

Date: Sunday, June 2, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The First Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of Motaz Matar, Mohamed Nasser, and eight others in the case known as “Siege and Random Bombing,” case number 338/2025 Criminal New Cairo First, to August 4, 2025, for closing arguments.

 

10- Case Name: Trial of Lawyer Hoda Abdel Moniem and Nine Others

Date: Sunday, June 2, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Terrorism Circuit, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided today to adjourn the trial of ten defendants charged with joining a terrorist group in case number 19719/2024 Criminal Nasr City, to July 14, 2025, for review.

 

11- Case Name: Joining a Terrorist Group in Al-Badrashin

Date: Monday, June 3, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The First Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, ruled in the retrial of defendant Bassam Shaheen Mohamed Mohamed Al-Abbassey, accused of joining a terrorist group in Al-Badrashin in case number 15552/2023, that the case cannot proceed due to prior adjudication in case number 1817/2023 Giza Center.

 

12- Case Name: Organizational Family Cell

Date: Monday, June 3, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The First Circuit, held at the Badr Court Complex, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided today to adjourn the trial of nine defendants in case number 8409/2025 Criminal Basateen, commonly known as the “Organizational Family Cell,” to August 16, 2025, for review and documents.

 

13- Case Name: Constitution Coup Group

Date: Monday, June 3, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The First Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided today to adjourn the trial of ten defendants in case number 22698/2024 Criminal New Cairo First District, commonly known as the “Constitution Coup Group,” to September 6, 2025, for closing arguments.

 

14- Case Name: Revolutionary Organization Cell

Date: Monday, June 3, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The First Terrorism Circuit, held at the Badr Court Complex, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided today to adjourn the trial of fifteen defendants in case number 19632/2024 Criminal Nasr City First, commonly known as the “Revolutionary Organization Cell,” to June 16, 2025, to proceed with the challenge of the judicial panel by the fourth defendant.

 

15- Case Name: Trial of 35 Defendants from Muslim Brotherhood Leadership in Haram

Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Terrorism Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 35 defendants from Muslim Brotherhood leadership in Haram in case number 66158/2024 Criminal Haram, to September 13, 2025, for review and preparation.

 

16- Case Name: Al-Hadaeq – Nawa7t Al-Thawra Cell

Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Appellate Division, held at the Badr Court Complex, presided over by Judge Hamada El-Sawi, decided to adjourn the appeal submitted by four defendants in case number 5314/2023 Hadayek El-Quba, registered under case number 41/2023 Criminal High State Security Court, commonly known as the “Nawa7t Al-Thawra Cell,” to July 14, 2025, for the appellants to attend from detention.

 

17- Case Name: Trial of Muslim Brotherhood Leader Yahya Moussa and 38 Others

Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Terrorism Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of Muslim Brotherhood leader Yahya Moussa and 38 other elements of the terrorist group in case number 15072/2024 Fifth Prosecution Office, to September 13, 2025, for review and preparation.

 

18- Case Name: Targeting Churches in Nasr City

Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Terrorism Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of Ayman El-Sayed Ibrahim El-Sayed, accused of targeting churches in Nasr City, in case number 19723/2024 Nasr City First, to July 13, 2025, for review and preparation.

 

19- Case Name: Trial of Yahya Moussa and 57 Others for Joining ISIS

Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the trial of Muslim Brotherhood leader Yahya Moussa and 57 other terrorist elements accused of joining ISIS and planning hostile operations aimed at destabilizing public order and threatening social peace in the country. The case, numbered 55/2024 Criminal High State Security Court, registered under number 1235/2024 Criminal Omrania, was adjourned to September 14, 2025, for review and closing arguments.

 

20- Case Name: Abou El-Fetouh Case – Spreading False News about the Tiran and Sanafir Islands Agreement

Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Emergency Criminal Court for High State Security Cases, held at the Badr Court Complex and presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, decided to reserve judgment on retrial proceedings for Ahmed Abdel Moneim Abou El-Fetouh, head of the Strong Egypt Party and former presidential candidate, who is the 12th defendant in case number 1059/2021 New Cairo Fifth, to be announced on July 28, 2025.

 

21- Case Name: Targeting Churches in Nasr City

Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Terrorism Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of defendant Ayman El-Sayed Ibrahim El-Sayed, accused of targeting churches in Nasr City in case number 19723/2024 Nasr City First, to July 13, 2025, for review and preparation.

24- Case Name: Attack on Mallawi Police Station in Minya

Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Terrorism Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of eight defendants accused of attacking Mallawi Center in Minya, in case number 5713/2025 Nasr City Third, to September 14, 2025, for review and preparation.

 

25- Case Name: Media Committees of the Muslim Brotherhood

Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Appellate Division at the Badr Court Complex decided to adjourn the appeal submitted by six defendants among associates of Dr. Hamzah Zubeid in charges of joining a terrorist group, broadcasting false news that undermines public order, and financing terrorist groups—commonly known in media as the “Muslim Brotherhood Media Committees”—to July 12, 2025, for closing arguments.

 

26- Case Name: Al-Qaeda Terror Cell

Date: Wednesday, June 11, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex and presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 22 defendants in the Al-Qaeda terror cell in case number 475/2025 Criminal New Cairo Fifth, to August 10, 2025, for review and preparation.

 

27- Case Name: Helwan Katiba (Helwan Brigades)

Date: Wednesday, June 11, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex and presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, decided to adjourn the retrial of defendant Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed in case number 6997/2015 Criminal Helwan, commonly known as “Helwan Katiba,” to June 25, 2025, for the defendant’s attendance from detention.

 

28- Case Name: Wilayat Sinai 3 (ISIS Sinai Province 3)

Date: Wednesday, June 11, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex and presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 87 defendants in the case known as “ISIS Wilayat Sinai 3” (case number 17628/2024 Nasr City First), to August 9, 2025, for review and preparation.

 

29- Case Name: Umm Yahya Al-Masri and Eight Defendants – ISIS Cluster Cell

Date: Wednesday, June 11, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of defendant Amira Mohamed Beha, known as “Umm Yahya Al-Masri,” and eight other defendants in case number 5091/2025 Criminal Nasr City First, commonly known as the “ISIS Cluster Cell,” to July 27, 2025, for review and closing arguments upon request of the defense attorneys present with the defendants.

 

30- Case Name: Foreign Lending Cell

Date: Wednesday, June 11, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex and presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of eight foreign defendants in the “Foreign Lending Cell” charged with intentional damage, to July 28, 2025, for the prosecution to provide Chinese and foreign language interpreters to assist during proceedings involving foreign defendants.

 

31- Case Name: Functional Work Committees Cell

Date: Wednesday, June 11, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex and presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 18 defendants in the “Functional Work Committees Cell” to July 27, 2025, for review, preparation, and witness statements.

 

32- Case Name: Alf Maskan Protests

Date: Wednesday, June 11, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Appellate Division, held at the Badr Court Complex and presided over by Judge Hamada El-Sawi, decided to adjourn the appeal submitted by Ahmed Mohammad Abbas Matouli, the main defendant in the protests of the “Alf Maskan” area, to July 14, 2025, for the appellant’s attendance from detention. It is worth noting that the defendant has a previous in absentia life imprisonment sentence issued on November 18, 2018.

 

33- Case Name: Storming Atfih Police Station

Date: Wednesday, June 11, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Appellate Division, held at the Badr Court Complex, rejected the appeal submitted by defendant Badi Abdel Aal Abdel Moksen Ali (defendant 48 in the indictment) and Ali Awais Fathy Abdel Wahab (defendant 58 in the indictment) in the case commonly known as the “Storming of Atfih Police Station,” and upheld the sentences imposed. The court also modified the penalty for defendant Mahmoud Abdelallah Mahmoud Imam (defendant 16 in the indictment), sentencing him to five years of aggravated imprisonment, and confirmed the rest of the verdict.

 

34- Case Name: Killing of General Nabil Faraj

Date: Wednesday, June 11, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Appellate Court at the Badr Court Complex decided to postpone the announcement of the verdict in the appeal submitted by defendant Essam Abdel Majid Diab Sayed, the second defendant in the case known in media as the killing of General Nabil Faraj in Kerdasa, after referring it to the Grand Mufti, to July 13, 2025, to complete deliberations.

 

35- Case Name: Revolutionary Guard (Haras Al-Thawra)

Date: Wednesday, June 11, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Appellate Division, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the appeal submitted by nine defendants accused of leading and heading a terrorist group, commonly known in media as “Revolutionary Guard,” to July 4, 2025, to continue closing arguments.

 

36- Case Name: Targeting Police, Army, and Christians

Date: Tuesday, June 12, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Terrorism Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 12 defendants accused of targeting police, army, and Christian citizens in case number 785/2025 Criminal Maadi, to August 11, 2025, for review and preparation for closing arguments.

 

37- Case Name: Second Nusra Front Organization

Date: Tuesday, June 12, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Terrorism Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of six defendants in the case known as the “Second Nusra Front Organization,” case number 157/2025 Criminal Sheikh Zayed Thaan, to August 23, 2025, for review and preparation for closing arguments.

 

38- Case Name: Wilayat Al-Isma’iliya (ISIS Cell in Ismailiya)

Date: Tuesday, June 12, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Appellate Division, held at the Badr Court Complex, reserved judgment in the appeal submitted by five defendants in case number 6482/2022 Criminal Shorouk, in which they were charged with joining a terrorist group, commonly known in media as the “Wilayat Al-Isma’iliya Terror Cell,” to be announced on July 13, 2025.

 

39- Case Name: Muslim Brotherhood Sabotage Committees

Date: Tuesday, June 12, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 49 defendants in the case known as the “Muslim Brotherhood Sabotage Committees,” case number 14405/2024 Criminal New Cairo Fifth, to August 11, 2025, for review and preparation for closing arguments.

 

40- Case Name: Omar Al-Tahriri Cell – Functional Committees Cell

Date: Tuesday, June 12, 2025

Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound

Details: The Second Criminal Circuit, First Instance, held at the Badr Court Complex and presided over by Judge Wajdi Abdel Moneim, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of ten defendants in the case known as the “Omar Al-Tahriri Cell – Functional Committees Cell,” case number 22768/2024 Criminal New Cairo First, to August 23, 2025, for review.
