The “Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has documented the suicide of Hani Abd El-Qader, an employee at the Egyptian Opera House, who threw himself into the Nile River in the Imbaba area after being unjustly dismissed from his job. The dismissal triggered a severe psychological crisis that ended in his tragic suicide.

Security authorities received a report about a person falling into the Nile, prompting immediate intervention by river rescue teams. His body was recovered, and his identity was confirmed. Eyewitnesses stated that Hani, who worked in the protocol and ceremonial department, was known for his good character and strong relationships with colleagues. He was also a father to three daughters.

Investigations revealed that the deceased left behind a heartbreaking handwritten letter with cryptic messages directed at those he blamed for his suffering, raising serious questions about the circumstances of his dismissal.

CFJ calls for an urgent investigation into the reasons behind Hani’s unjust dismissal, ensuring the legality of the decision, and holding accountable those responsible for any legal violations that contributed to this tragic outcome. The committee also stresses the need to guarantee his family’s rights and provide compensation for the psychological and financial harm they have endured.
