Reading Time: 2 Minutes

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) will organize, on Saturday, May 3, 2025, an event to launch the first edition of its “Country Review” initiative, with the participation of a selection of non-governmental organizations, human rights defenders, and African experts.

The event will take place at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center in Banjul, The Gambia. The initiative aims to establish an interactive platform for analyzing human rights situations in several African countries, with a focus on transitional and military governments, highlighting urgent violations and identifying reform pathways.

Through this initiative, the commission seeks to strengthen the mechanisms of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights by promoting tangible follow-up at both national and regional levels.

The event’s program will focus on human rights issues in (Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali) during its first session. This will be followed by a comprehensive analysis of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan with proposed actions through the African Commission in the second session.

During the third session, the event will review human rights developments in Tunisia through expert testimonies and field analyses. Then, in the fourth and final session, it will assess justice conditions and reforms in Egypt, including an overview of civil society interventions.

Through this initiative, the CFJ aims to achieve several objectives, including raising global awareness about violations in target countries, empowering local voices to formulate recommendations for the African Commission, and building strategic alliances to support human rights reforms.
