As part of its ongoing monitoring of the legal situation related to key human rights cases in Egypt, the Committee for Justice (CFJ) has issued its weekly bulletin detailing the latest developments in major cases. The bulletin, published through its political case agenda, was launched to facilitate access to information regarding hearing dates and updates on human rights cases in a simplified and accessible format. Below are the updates for the period from May 17 to May 22, 2025:
1- Case Name: Sinai’s ISIS
- Date: Saturday, May 17, 2025
- Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
- Details: The First Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the trial of 37 defendants in case number 7801/2023 Criminals (First District), registered under case number 38/2023 Criminals – State Security, commonly known as “Sinai Daesh Cell,” to July 5, 2025, to continue final arguments.
2- Case Name: Gold Shops and Churches Attack Cell
- Date: Saturday, May 17, 2025
- Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
- Details: The First Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the trial of 11 defendants accused of attacking gold shops and churches to July 5, 2025, to hear witness testimonies.
3- Case Name: Nour al-Din al-Zenki Organization
- Date: Saturday, May 17, 2025
- Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
- Details: The First Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the trial of three defendants in case number 387/2024 Criminals – State Security, commonly referred to as the “Nour al-Din al-Zenki Organization,” affiliated with “Jabhat al-Nusra,” to June 14, 2025, for final arguments.
4- Case Name: El-Beheira Cell
- Date: Saturday, May 17, 2025

- Details: The First Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the trial of 21 defendants in case number 374/2024 Criminals – High State Security, commonly referred to as the “Beheira Cell,” to July 19, 2025, for final arguments. It is worth noting that 10 defendants are currently detained, while 11 are at large.
5- Case Name: Hazmemoon Terrorist Group – Al-Marg Terrorist Cell
- Date: Saturday, May 17, 2025
- Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
- Details: The First Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbeeny, issued its verdict in the retrial of three defendants charged with joining the “Hazm” group. The court sentenced Abdel Karim Shahata Ali Jallal to three years’ rigorous imprisonment; Mustafa Ahmed Abdel Latif Al-Wazan to life imprisonment; and Mahmoud Ahmed Abdel Latif Al-Wazan to five years’ rigorous imprisonment. The court also ordered police surveillance of the first defendant for three years, and of the second and third defendants for five years each after serving their respective sentences, and ordered all convicted defendants to pay criminal costs and confiscated seized items.
6- Case Name: Al-Nozha Cell
- Date: Sunday, May 18, 2025

- Details: The First Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the retrial of defendant Ahmed Rabea Mahmoud Shaban, who was previously sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment in case number 7449/2922 Al-Nozha, charged with joining a terrorist group and smuggling money abroad, commonly referred to as the “Al-Nozha Cell,” to July 21, 2025.
7- Case Name: Hisham Al-Ashmawi Cell
- Date: Sunday, May 18, 2025
- Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
- Details: The First Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the retrial of defendant Ibrahim Obaid Abdelwanees, the seventh accused in the case commonly known as the “Hisham al-Ashmawi Cell,” registered under case numbers 32/2021 Criminals – Emergency State Security (Al-Warak), 9/2021 Criminals North Giza, and 385/2020 Criminals – High State Security, to July 21, 2025. It is worth noting that this defendant had previously been sentenced in absentia to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment.
8- Case Name: Abdeen Violence Incidents
- Date: Sunday, May 18, 2025
- Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
- Details: The First Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Mohamed Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the retrial of the first defendant in case number 699/2015, commonly known as the “Abdeen Riots,” to July 21, 2025. It is worth noting that the defendant, Abdel Rahman Osama Hassan Mustafa, had previously been sentenced in absentia on April 3, 2017, to five years’ rigorous imprisonment for possession of explosives, illegal demonstrations, and showing off force.
9- Case Name: Rabaa Al-Adawiya Dispersal
- Date: Sunday, May 18, 2025
- Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
- Details: The First Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Mohamed Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the retrial of nine defendants who were previously sentenced in absentia to 15 years’ rigorous imprisonment in the case commonly known as the “Rabaa Dispersal,” to July 21, 2025.
10- Case Name: Revolutionary Guard
- Date: Monday, May 19, 2025
- Location: Court Complex, Badr Prison Compound
- Details: The First Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Mohamed Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the retrial of Abdel Hamid Mahir Abdel Hamid, accused of heading and leading a terrorist group known as the “Revolutionary Guard,” to August 2, 2025, for final arguments.
11- Case Name: Islamic Front Organization
- Date: Monday, May 19, 2025

- Details: The First Criminal Circuit, presided over by Judge Mohamed Saeed El-Sharbeeny, decided to adjourn the trial of three defendants—including a housewife—in the case commonly known as the “Islamic Front Organization,” case number 1320/2024 Criminals (Fifth Settlement), registered under case number 52/2024 Criminals – High State Security, to August 2, 2025, pending submission of reports.
12- Case Name: Smuggling Members of the Terrorist Group Abroad Using Forged Documents
