The CFJ Issues Its Weekly Bulletin on Developments of Key Human Rights Cases for the Period from July 5 to July 10, 2025

Within the framework of its continuous monitoring of the legal situation related to significant human rights cases in Egypt, “Justice Committee” issues its weekly bulletin covering developments of the most important cases during the week. These updates are published via its political agenda for legal cases, which was launched to facilitate access to hearing dates and recent developments regarding human rights cases in a simplified format that is easy to follow, for the period from July 5 to July 10, 2025, as follows:

1- Case Name: Trial of Five Businessmen Accused of Financing Terrorism

Date: July 5, 2025

Location: Badr Court Complex

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of five businessmen accused of financing terrorism in Case No. 578 of 2025 Criminal (Jana’at) – Fifth Settlement, to September 9 next; for review and preparation.

2- Case Name: Trial of 63 Defendants Charged with Joining a Terror Cell Affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood

Date: July 5, 2025

Location: Badr Court Complex

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 63 defendants charged with joining a terrorist cell affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood in Case No. 14488 of 2024 Criminal (Jana’at) – Fifth Settlement, to October 4 next; for review.

  1. Case Name: Trial of “Specialized Sabotage Groups”

Date: July 5, 2025

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 71 defendants accused of joining “Specialized Sabotage Groups,” in Case No. 3768 of 2025 Criminal (Jana’at) – Fifth Settlement, to October 5 next; for review and preparation.

  1. Case Name: Resistance Committees

Date: July 5, 2025

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 23 defendants accused of joining “Resistance Committees” affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood in Case No. 20701 of 2024 Criminal (Jana’at) – First Settlement, to October 4 next; for review and preparation.

  1. Case Name: Revolutionary Organization Cell

Date: July 5, 2025

Location: Badr Court Complex

Details: The First Circuit of Terror Prosecution Courts, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, decided to suspend proceedings in the trial of 15 defendants in Case No. 19632 of 2024 Criminal (Jana’at) – Nasr City First, also known in media as the “Revolutionary Organization Cell,” and referred the case to Cairo Appellate Court to be assigned to another circuit.

  1. Case Name: Cell Targeting Gold Shops and Churches

Date: July 5, 2025

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, scheduled the trial session for 11 defendants accused of targeting gold shops and churches to be held on October 18 next; for witness testimonies.

  1. Case Name: ISIS Sinai

Date: July 5, 2025

Location: Badr Court Complex

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, ordered the postponement of the trial of 37 defendants in Case No. 7801 of 2023 Criminal (Jana’at) – First Settlement, registered under Case No. 38 of 2023 State Security Prosecution, known as the “ISIS Sinai Cell,” to October 18 next; for issuing the verdict.

  1. Case Name: Events of Al-Mansa

Date: July 7, 2025

Location: Badr Court Complex

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, decided to adjourn the retrial of 9 defendants in the case of the killing of Sherif Al-Subaiey, a police officer from the Central Security Forces, and others, in violent incidents at Al-Azhar and the Conference Hall in Nasr City, known in media as the “Events of Al-Mansa,” to October 19 next; for continuation of closing arguments.

  1. Case Name: Lone Wolves Cell

Date: July 7, 2025

Location: Badr Court Complex

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, decided to adjourn the trial of defendant Islam Samir Mohamed Bakkar in Case No. 382 of 2024 High State Security Prosecution, registered under Case No. 11971 of 2024 Criminal (Jana’at) – Warraq, also known in media as the “Lone Wolves Cell,” to September 9 next; for defense closing arguments, while maintaining pre-trial detention.

  1. Case Name: Financial Committee for Managing the Group’s Funds from Abroad

Date: July 7, 2025

Location: Badr Court Complex

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 44 defendants accused of joining the “Financial Committee for Managing the Group’s Funds from Abroad,” in Case No. 10948 of 2024 Criminal (Jana’at) – Fifth Settlement, to October 7 next; for review and preparation.

  1. Case Name: Riot and Violence Committees Against State Institutions

Date: July 7, 2025

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 89 defendants accused of joining “Riot and Violence Committees Against State Institutions,” in Case No. 12904 of 2025 Criminal (Jana’at) – Fifth Settlement, to October 18 next; for review and preparation.

  1. Case Name: Jihad Group Affiliated with Al-Qaeda

Date: July 7, 2025

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 6 defendants accused of joining the “Jihad Group affiliated with Al-Qaeda,” in Case No. 37 of 2025 Criminal (Jana’at) – Old Cairo, to October 19 next; for review and preparation.

  1. Case Name: Possession of Explosives and Inciting Media in Al-Zawya Al-Hamra

Date: July 7, 2025

Location: Badr Court Complex

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, issued a ruling in the trial of defendant Ahmed Mohab Abdel-Sadeq Rashid (41 years old), for possession of explosives and inciting materials in Al-Zawya Al-Hamra. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, and the court ordered his inclusion along with the Muslim Brotherhood branch he belongs to on both the terrorism list and the list of terrorist entities. Additionally, the court mandated him to participate in rehabilitation courses for 5 years and placed him under police surveillance for 5 years starting after the completion of his sentence.

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 39 defendants involved in “Postat” groups affiliated with the Brotherhood’s media committee, in Case No. 19857 of 2024 Criminal (Jana’at) – Nasr City First, to October 18 next; for review and preparation.

  1. Case Name: Trial of 38 Defendants for Broadcasting Anti-System News on Al-Sharq and Mekameleen Channels

Date: July 7, 2025

Location: Badr Court Complex

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, decided to adjourn the first session of the trial of 38 defendants accused of broadcasting anti-system news on Al-Sharq and Mekameleen channels, in Case No. 15044 of 2024 Criminal (Jana’at) – Matariya, to October 7 next; for review and preparation.

  1. Case Name: Preachers of Al-Falih

Date: July 8, 2025

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, postponed the first session of the trial of 12 defendants in the group known as «Preachers of Al-Falih», in Case No. 20953 of 2025 Criminal (Jana’at) – Haram, to October 8 next; for review and preparation.

  1. Case Name: Attack on the Security Force at the Ministry of Supply Silo Complex

Details: The First Circuit of the First Instance Criminal Court, chaired by Judge Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sharbiny, postponed the first session of the trial of Hossam Mohamed Ibrahim Shams El-Din (41 years old), accused of attacking the security force at the silo complex of the Ministry of Supply, in Case No. 3706 of 2025 Criminal (Jana’at) – Zaytoun, to October 18 next; for review and preparation.

  1. Case Name: Trial of 32 Defendants for Joining a Terrorist Group and Spreading False News
