The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of teachers’ rights activist Ibrahim Tara in Embada locality after he was arrested and tortured within one of the detention centers operated by the Rapid Support Forces militia.
Tara had disappeared for a period before reappearing in a distressing video recording showing him in a tragic physical and humanitarian condition, with clear signs of severe torture, medical neglect, and starvation.
According to local sources, the Rapid Support Forces demanded that his family pay a financial ransom in exchange for his release. Despite the family paying the demanded amount, he was not released, and his death was later announced as a result of the torture he endured.
The CFJ holds the Rapid Support Forces militia fully legally and morally responsible for this crime, and calls for an immediate and independent investigation to reveal all those involved and ensure they are held accountable and do not escape punishment.
