Sudan: The CFJ Demands Clarification on the Fate of Human Rights Lawyer Mohamed Ezz El-din and Urges Immediate Release and Guarantee of His Safety

Less than 1 minute Reading Time: Minutes

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the arrest of Sudanese lawyer and human rights defender Mohamed Ezz El-din by security forces in the city of Port Sudan on May 10, 2025, under suspicious circumstances and without following any clear legal procedures or notifying a competent judicial authority.

Sources have reported that the location of Ezz El-din’s detention remains unknown, which raises serious concerns regarding his physical and psychological safety, and constitutes a blatant violation of his constitutional and human rights.

The CFJ condemns this arbitrary arrest and enforced disappearance of lawyer Mohamed Ezz El-din, and demands that his fate be clarified immediately, along with his prompt and unconditional release, and guarantees for his physical and mental safety, and full access to his legal rights, including his right to defense and appearance before an independent and impartial judiciary.

The CFJ also calls upon international and UN bodies, particularly the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders and the UN Special Rapporteur on Arbitrary Detention, to urgently intervene and exert pressure for his immediate release.
