The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has confirmed the arrest of Dr. Ahmed Al-Mutassim, a physician working with Relief organization and prominent humanitarian activist, by the Rapid Support Forces on May 1, 2025, along with several other members of the organization in El-Fasher city.
According to union sources, Dr. Al-Mutassim was carrying out his humanitarian and medical duties as part of an organizational medical team at the time of his arrest.
The CFJ affirms that targeting doctors and medical personnel and arbitrarily detaining them while performing their professional duties constitutes a serious violation of the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law and contradicts international treaties that protect medical teams and rescuers during armed conflicts.
The CFJ holds the Rapid Support Forces militia fully responsible for the physical and psychological safety of the detainees and calls for their immediate and unconditional release.
The CFJ also urges all conflict parties in Sudan to immediately stop restricting doctors and health professionals, refrain from targeting health facilities, and avoid any actions that may hinder the provision of essential medical services to the Sudanese people, who are suffering from escalating war atrocities and a near-total collapse of the healthcare infrastructure.
