The Committee for Justice (CFJ) documented that several members of the Dead Bodies’ Management team from the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) volunteers in North Kordofan—where military operations between the army and the Rapid Support Forces are escalating—were injured with varying degrees of severity after a projectile struck their residence in the Al-Andaraba area. The incident also destroyed two vehicles bearing the SRCS’s emblem.
The SRCS expressed its deep regret over the incident, calling for the protection of humanitarian workers and ensuring that Red Crescent volunteers, staff, and property are not targeted.
The SRCS affirmed its continued commitment to its humanitarian role in both peace and war, by providing assistance to victims of natural disasters and conflicts—including the safe and dignified burial of bodies—in a manner that respects human dignity, according to the statement.
CFJ condemns the pursuit and targeting of volunteers and calls for an impartial and transparent investigation into the circumstances of the artillery strike on their residence. The CFJ also urges both parties to the conflict in Sudan to neutralize humanitarian workers, reminding them that protecting such personnel is a legal and moral obligation.
