Sudan: Death of Dr. Mohamed Abdel Raouf at the Hands of the RSF in Khartoum and The CFJ Demands Investigation and Accountability

Less than 1 minute

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has revealed the death of Dr. Mohamed Abdel Raouf Abdel Majid Hussein as a result of torture inside one of the detention centers operated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militias in the capital, Khartoum.

Dr. Hussein was abducted from his home in Al-Taif neighborhood, eastern Khartoum, on January 9, 2025. Since then, his family remained unaware of his fate for months until they confirmed his death last week after prolonged waiting and efforts to uncover his whereabouts.

Initial investigations indicate that Hussein was subjected to severe beatings and physical and psychological torture during his detention, which led to his death under circumstances amounting to an extrajudicial killing.

The CFJ strongly condemns the incident and demands an immediate and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Dr. Mohamed Abdel Raouf, with precise identification of those responsible. The committee stresses the necessity of holding accountable all individuals involved in his torture or unlawful detention, and preventing any form of impunity.
