The Committee for Justice (CFJ) condemns the killing of more than 40 civilians in a drone strike that targeted residents in the Al‑Rawaga area, home to members of the Hawazma tribe in West Kordofan State, on 10 March 2026. The attack resulted in a high number of casualties, including many women and children.

According to CFJ’s documentation, a drone belonging to the Sudanese Armed Forces struck a “Dafaar” transport truck carrying members of a single family who were traveling to the city of Al‑Fulah to attend a funeral. The strike killed dozens and injured several others, in an initial toll expected to rise.

Available information indicates that most of the victims were women, with several children also among the dead, highlighting the devastating humanitarian impact of the attack.

CFJ stressed that targeting civilians while they are engaged in social or family obligations constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law, which strictly prohibits attacks on civilians and civilian objects and obligates parties to the conflict to take all feasible precautions to avoid harming the civilian population.

The Committee for Justice calls for an urgent, independent, and transparent investigation into the drone strike on Al‑Rawaga, full disclosure of the circumstances, and accountability for those responsible. CFJ also urges all parties to the conflict in Sudan to strictly comply with international humanitarian law, take necessary measures to protect civilians, and stop targeting them during military operations.
