Sudan: CFJ Reports the Killing of Dr. Abdel Rahman Mustafa in South Sudan and Calls for Accountability and Investigation

Less than 1 minute Reading Time: Minutes

The “Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has documented the killing of doctor and humanitarian activist Abdel Rahman Omar Mustafa inside his home in the city of Waw, South Sudan, in an attack carried out by several citizens, which also resulted in injuries to several members of his family.

The late doctor had fled to South Sudan from the city of Wad Madani after it fell into the hands of the “Rapid Support Forces” militia. He settled there and continued his humanitarian mission by providing medical services to a wide sector of the population. However, the escalation of events in South Sudan led to his targeting as part of a wave of systematic attacks against the Sudanese community in Juba and other areas.

CFJ expresses deep sorrow over Mustafa’s killing and holds the South Sudanese government fully responsible for its failure to protect the Sudanese community and secure their properties. The committee calls for an investigation into the incident, accountability for those responsible, and the prevention of impunity. Furthermore, CFJ urges the Sudanese authorities to take immediate action to protect their citizens and evacuate them should violations against them persist.
