Press Release

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented a brutal crime committed by the Rapid Support Forces against Dr. Mohamed Zakaria, who also worked as an aid activist. The incident occurred when forces stormed his home and attempted to sexually assault his daughters in front of him. When he tried to defend them, he was executed in a horrific manner in front of his family.

CFJ emphasizes that this incident is part of a systematic pattern of violations targeting civilians and medical professionals in Sudan. The incident reflects an alarming escalation of violence against those working under exceptional circumstances to save lives. The committee further noted that this crime highlights the recurring pattern of sexual violence and killings perpetrated by the Rapid Support Forces.

CFJ calls for an impartial, transparent, and swift investigation into the circumstances of the incident, with accountability for those responsible and measures to prevent their impunity. Additionally, the committee urges the international community and UN mechanisms to exert pressure on parties involved in the Sudan conflict to protect unarmed civilians, particularly medical workers operating in extraordinary conditions.
