The “Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has documented the death of Sudanese journalist and broadcaster Yahya Hamad Fadlallah due to torture inside army detention facilities.
According to the Sudanese Journalists’ Syndicate, Fadlallah was subjected to torture at the hands of Sudanese army intelligence after being arrested from his home in the Al-Doroshib neighborhood of Khartoum Bahri, along with his son, on December 11, 2024. He was later released on January 10, 2025.
His family reported that he passed away on January 13, 2025, at Al-Naw Hospital in Omdurman due to the deterioration of his health during detention. Fadlallah, who suffered from diabetes, was deprived of medical treatment and was subjected to beatings and torture.
CFJ condemns the violations committed against Fadlallah and journalists in general by both parties to the conflict in Sudan. The committee calls for ensuring the protection of journalists and demands independent, transparent, and urgent investigations into Fadlallah’s arrest and torture, holding those responsible accountable and preventing them from escaping justice.
