Sudan: CFJ condemns killing of doctor Daw al-Beit Ahmed in RSF artillery shelling

Less than 1 minute Reading Time: Minutes

The Sudan Doctors’ Network announced the death of relief activist and physician Daw al-Beit Ahmed, medical director of the Al-Salam Health Center for diabetic wounds in El-Fasher, as a result of artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the center.

The network described the incident not as an isolated event, but as a “full-fledged war crime” against what remains of the health infrastructure in North Darfur, and as part of an effort to deprive thousands of patients of their basic right to treatment and health care.

In its statement, the network accused the RSF of deliberately shelling the center, which had been serving patients and the wounded, calling it a “systematic continuation of the policy of targeting health institutions and their staff.”

The Sudan Doctors’ Network held the RSF fully responsible for what it described as “crime” and for all crimes committed against civilians and medical staff. It also urged the international community, the World Health Organization, the African Union, and human rights and humanitarian organizations to take urgent and serious action to stop this systematic targeting and to protect medical personnel and health institutions in Sudan.

CFJ condemns the killing of physician and relief activist Daw al-Beit Ahmed in the RSF artillery attack, describing it as part of a systematic policy practiced by the militias against civilians. CFJ calls for an immediate and independent investigation to uncover the circumstances of the incident, stressing that targeting hospitals, medical centers, and staff represents a flagrant challenge to all international laws and conventions.
