RSF Executes Doctor in El-Fasher Amid Escalating Attacks on Medical Personnel

Less than 1 minute Reading Time: Minutes

Committee For Justice has documented the extrajudicial killing of Doctor Adam Ibrahim Ismail by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El-Fasher, following his arrest after the group’s takeover of the city. Reports confirm that RSF executed the doctor in the field, in a blatant violation of International Humanitarian Law and universally recognized norms that prohibit attacks on medical personnel.

Human rights reports, including a statement by the Sudan Doctors Network, indicate that RSF forces have carried out executions of patients and the wounded inside hospitals in El-Fasher, describing these acts as war crimes and crimes against humanity that warrant international prosecution. Such practices constitute a clear breach of Sudan’s obligations under the Geneva Conventions and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), in addition to violating the principles of International Humanitarian Law, which guarantee the protection of medical and humanitarian personnel during armed conflicts.

In its concluding statement, Committee For Justice strongly condemns these grave violations and calls for an independent international investigation under UN supervision, as well as accountability before relevant international mechanisms, including the International Criminal Court. CFJ urges the World Health Organization and UN bodies responsible for the protection of health workers to take immediate action to safeguard doctors and humanitarian personnel in conflict areas. The Committee emphasizes the urgent need to activate accountability mechanisms to ensure perpetrators face justice and do not benefit from impunity, in full compliance with international treaties ratified by Sudan.
