Egypt: The CFJ Rejects Ruling Against Moaz Al-Sharkawy in “Al-Marg Forgery Cell” Case, Demands Immediate Release

Less than 1 minute

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) expressed rejection of the ruling issued by the Second Circuit of the Court of First Instance in the case known as the “Al-Marg Forgery Cell,” which sentenced human rights and student activist Moaz Najah Mansour Al-Sharkawy to ten years in prison.

The CFJ described the ruling as part of the ongoing campaign targeting political activists and human rights defenders in Egypt, pointing out Al-Sharkawy was targeted solely due to his long-standing student activism and human rights work.

The CFJ calls on Egyptian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Moaz Al-Sharkawy, and to provide him with an effective and secure space to carry out his student and human rights activities, stressing the necessity for Egyptian authorities to respect their international obligations regarding freedom of opinion and expression.
