Egypt: The CFJ Documents Gross Violations Against Four Political Detainees at Borg al-Arab Prison, Calls for Immediate Cessation and Release

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented gross violations committed by the administration of Borg al-Arab prison west of Alexandria against four political detainees inside the facility, in retaliation for their objection to what they described as “humiliating” search procedures they were subjected to in recent days.

Based on testimonies from within the prison, the prison administration took the four detainees into disciplinary solitary confinement, where they were deprived of mattresses and blankets, and left only with the clothes they were wearing at the time of the incident.

The detainees subjected to these violations are Mansour El-Sayed, Amr Al-Wansh, Abd al-Rahman Saleh, and Muhammad Al-Bandari. Following this incident, Egypt’s Prison Authority transferred them to Al-Wadi al-Gedid Prison, located in a remote desert area, further worsening their psychological and physical suffering and limiting their rights to communication with their families and access to legal care.

The CFJ views this transfer as an extension of the abusive policies targeting political detainees in Egypt. The committee calls for an immediate halt to the violations against these four detainees, their prompt release, and the initiation of independent and transparent investigations into the abuses they have suffered, holding accountable those responsible and ensuring they do not escape punishment.
