Egypt: The CFJ Condemns the Deprivation of 3,000 Workers at Al-Amir Ceramics Due to Company Debts

Less than 1 minute

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has expressed deep condemnation over the continued closure of Al-Amir Ceramics factory in Al-‘Asher Min Ramadan, which includes the Labotti and Majestic plants, for the third consecutive week following the cutoff of gas supply due to a massive debt exceeding EGP 100 million, in addition to large outstanding debts owed to electricity and water companies.

The CFJ confirmed that the shutdown occurred while approximately 3,000 workers remain unpaid for their May 2025 salaries — an issue the workers described as a blatant violation of their rights, and part of the ongoing neglect by employers who have since disappeared from the scene without fulfilling their responsibilities.

The committee also pointed out that the gas cutoff occurred on May 22, 2025, by the national gas company due to accumulated debts, leading to a complete halt in production and instructing workers to stay home until further notice, in the absence of any real solutions or compensation.

The CFJ calls on Egypt’s Ministry of Labour to urgently intervene to save thousands of families from displacement and hunger, especially as the crisis over delayed wages worsens. Workers propose that the state temporarily take over the management of the company as an urgent solution to protect workers’ rights and resume operations.

The committee also denounces the “deliberate negligence” by the company’s management and calls on it to assume its legal and ethical responsibilities and provide workers with their rightful dues.
