Egypt: Committee for Justice Monitors Protest by Adult Education Teachers Demanding Enforcement of Employment Rulings

The Committee for Justice has monitored a protest organized by a group of female employees from the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education, representing various governorates across Egypt. The protest took place in front of the authority’s headquarters in Cairo.

According to CFJ, the demonstration was held in response to the failure to implement judicial rulings issued years ago, which grant the teachers the right to change their employment status from temporary to permanent.

Security forces reportedly asked the protesting teachers to move their demonstration inside the authority’s premises. Later, officers from the National Security Agency met with the teachers and requested that they leave the area and wait for a response to their demands by next Sunday.

CFJ expressed its full solidarity with the employees of the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education, stressing that the solution lies in reaching safe and fair resolutions for workers, ensuring a safe and suitable work environment, and enforcing court rulings that affirm their right to permanent employment within their institutions.
