Egypt: Committee for Justice Documents Visit Ban and Assaults on Activist Mohamed Adel in 10th of Ramadan Prison (Rehabilitation 4)

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the continuation of violations against detained activist Mohamed Adel inside 10th of Ramadan Prison (Rehabilitation 4), including repeated visit bans without legal justification and allegations of physical assault.

According to CFJ’s monitoring, Mohamed Adel’s family was denied visitation on 10 January 2026, despite being physically present inside the prison premises. Officials claimed—without written proof—that he had “refused the visit.” During a subsequent visit on 14 January, Mohamed informed his family that he had been beaten and choked on the same day the visit was denied, and that the visit had nonetheless been recorded as completed in official logs.

The committee also received information indicating that, despite the filing of official complaints, another visit was denied on 10 February, again without any written legal explanation. This occurred alongside Mohamed Adel’s ongoing hunger strike, which began on 7 December 2025, in addition to him being denied access to exercise, and allegations that certain criminal detainees were encouraged or incited against him.

CFJ stressed that denying family visits without a written, reasoned decision, as well as allegations of physical assault, threats, or coercion inside detention facilities, constitute serious violations requiring urgent investigation—particularly given that Mohamed Adel remains on hunger strike, placing him at heightened medical risk.

The committee confirmed that it continues to monitor Mohamed Adel’s situation as part of its broader documentation of conditions inside places of detention in Egypt—including guarantees of physical safety, the right to family contact, and access to necessary medical care.
