The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of political detainee Engineer Youssef Mohamed Ali (31) inside his place of detention at the Tenth of Ramadan Central Security Forces Camp, on Sunday, 30 March 2026, in an incident that raises serious questions regarding detention conditions and access to healthcare.
According to CFJ’s documentation, the deceased was a resident of Tenth of Ramadan City and worked as a mechanical engineer. Available information indicates that he died after suffering a cardiac arrest inside the detention facility, without sufficient details having been disclosed regarding his health condition or medical care prior to his death.
CFJ noted that the late Youssef Mohamed Ali held a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Russia and had been working abroad before returning to Egypt following the death of his father. He was married and survived by a son and a daughter.
The Committee for Justice stressed that the recurrence of deaths inside places of detention raises grave concerns about the adequacy of medical care provided to detainees and underscores the urgent need to ensure regular medical monitoring and timely healthcare for all individuals deprived of their liberty, in line with their constitutional and human rights guarantees.
