Egypt: Committee for Justice Documents Simultaneous Protests by Al Ahly Club Workers Demanding Minimum Wage Implementation

Less than 1 minute Reading Time: Minutes

The Committee for Justice has documented simultaneous protest actions organized by male and female workers at Al Ahly Sporting Club branches in Sheikh Zayed, Tagamoa, and Nasr City, demanding the implementation of the legally mandated minimum wage of EGP 7,000.

According to CFJ’s monitoring, workers reported receiving their October salaries without the minimum wage adjustment, with only a modest increase of EGP 400. This comes despite a decision issued last September by the club’s Executive Director, Saad Shalaby, mandating the application of the minimum wage for all workers.

Workers stated that their average salaries range between EGP 3,500 and EGP 5,000, even among those with over 20 years of service. They also noted that no cost-of-living allowances or salary increases have been granted since Mahmoud El Khatib assumed the club presidency in 2017.

The Committee for Justice affirms its solidarity with the workers of Al Ahly Club and stresses their right to receive fair financial compensation in accordance with the law and the minimum wage regulations.

CFJ also highlights the importance of transparency in addressing the demands of protesting workers, particularly regarding the enforcement of the minimum wage, amid the challenging economic conditions they are facing.
