The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented a series of serious violations committed against political detainees inside Reform and Rehabilitation Center (9) at Prison 440, prompting widespread concern and anger among detainees and their families.
According to CFJ’s findings, complaints indicated that a National Security officer at the prison stormed several wards housing political detainees—specifically Wards 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, and 11—conducting extensive search campaigns accompanied by degrading treatment. These actions reportedly obstructed detainees’ ability to perform prayers and religious rituals during the month of Ramadan.
CFJ also received reports that several detainees were transferred to Ward (12), commonly known as the “Intake Ward,” where they were denied even the most basic living necessities, including adequate food, medical care, blankets, and essential personal items. Additional testimonies pointed to the officer overseeing incidents of torture inside the Intake Ward and issuing orders to place some detainees in solitary confinement (“disciplinary cells”).
The Committee for Justice calls for an urgent and transparent investigation into the violations committed inside Reform and Rehabilitation Center (9) at Prison 440, and for accountability for all those involved in acts of torture or the deprivation of detainees’ fundamental rights. CFJ emphasizes the need to ensure full respect for the human rights of political detainees.
The Committee further underscores the importance of providing appropriate living and health conditions for detainees—conditions that preserve their dignity and safeguard their physical and psychological well‑being—constituting a fundamental step toward compliance with national and international standards for the treatment of prisoners.
