The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented an urgent distress call from the family of Dr. Sherine Shawky Ahmed Moawad, following her arrest at dawn on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, by officers from the National Security Agency. She was taken to an undisclosed location before being brought before the Supreme State Security Prosecution on Wednesday, 18 December, where she was interrogated and charged with joining a group, financing it, and collecting donations. She was subsequently transferred to Al‑Ashir min Ramadan Prison.
According to her family, Dr. Sherine is an academic specializing in physical education. She holds a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree from Zagazig University (2017), and a PhD in Physical Education from the same university (2020). She has worked as a lecturer at Suez Canal University and Benha University, and has no known involvement in any unlawful activities, having dedicated her career entirely to academic and teaching work.
CFJ added that the family has expressed grave concern over her health condition. Dr. Sherine suffers from a severe lumbar disc herniation that causes intense difficulty in movement and can sometimes prevent her from walking, in addition to a cervical disc condition. She also suffers from chronic and acute anemia, with hemoglobin levels dropping to around 5 g/dL, a condition that requires regular blood transfusions and has previously caused repeated fainting episodes.
The family confirmed that, prior to her arrest, doctors had recommended an urgent complete blood count and a MRI scan of the brain, but these examinations were not conducted due to her sudden detention—further heightening serious concerns for her life if she continues to be deprived of necessary medical care.
CFJ holds the competent authorities fully responsible for the safety and life of political detainee Dr. Sherine Shawky Ahmed Moawad. The organization calls for ensuring her immediate access to urgent and specialized medical care, allowing her to undergo all required medical tests without delay, and halting any violations she may be subjected to in detention, in line with legal safeguards and human rights norms guaranteed under the Constitution and international conventions.
