Egypt: CFJ Documents Death of Young Man in Imbaba Police Station Custody – Calls for Transparent Investigation

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of detainee Ahmed Mostafa, known as “Ahmed Gezira,” aged approximately 35, inside his holding cell at Imbaba Police Station in Giza Governorate.

According to available information, the death occurred on Monday, November 10, 2025, three weeks after his detention on charges related to trafficking the drug “Ice,” along with another suspect.

CFJ reports that authorities at Imbaba Police Station pressured the deceased’s family to sign a statement claiming the death was caused by “acute circulatory failure” in order to complete the procedures for releasing the body from the Imbaba Chest Hospital morgue.

The committee calls for an urgent and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Ahmed Mostafa, known as “Ahmed Gezira,” while in custody at Imbaba Police Station. CFJ also urges accountability for those responsible and calls on Egyptian authorities to improve detention conditions across all facilities.
