The Committee for Justice (CFJ) documented an appeal from Shaimaa Diab Mohamed, a cleaning worker at Standard Project Management Company, who had been assigned to work at the Qalyubia Post Office. She reported that she was arbitrarily dismissed from her job.
In a widely circulated video on social media, Shaimaa explained that she had to miss one day of work. The next day, she was informed by her company supervisor that she had been dismissed and replaced by another employee without a contract, even though she had arranged for her daughter to substitute for her that day at the supervisor’s suggestion.
Shaimaa added that she had been working at the company for three years with a good record and reputation, noting that the company ignored her difficult economic circumstances before dismissing her in favor of another woman, whom she said was hired as a favor to one of the company’s officials.
She further explained that she supports her household while her husband is unable to work, and that she has four children whose basic needs she strives to provide for.
CFJ affirmed its solidarity with Shaimaa Diab, stressed the importance of reinstating her to her job as soon as possible, and called for accountability for those responsible for this violation and for an investigation into the incident.
