Press Release
The Committee for Justice (CFJ) calls for the immediate release of Ms. Radwa Yasser Sayed Mohamed Borai, aged 22, who has been detained since August 21, 2021, in connection with case number 2976 of 2021, known in the media as the “Our Kitchen Group” case.
Breast cancer diagnosis and medical neglect:
Radwa is experiencing a severe deterioration in her health due to breast cancer, which requires urgent chemotherapy sessions and necessary surgeries to save her life. Before her arrest, Radwa was a social and human rights activist known for her work in supporting the poor and needy. Her activism expanded to include assisting the families of political detainees after her father, Sayed Mohamed Sayed, was arrested. He spent eight years in pretrial detention related to the “Helwan Brigades” case before being recently acquitted.
During this time, Radwa worked to provide both material and moral support to detainees’ families by preparing food, organizing visits, and assisting charitable organizations in offering material and emotional aid to these families.
Violation of the right to life:
CFJ emphasizes that Radwa Yasser’s health condition poses a serious threat to her life if she is not released immediately to receive necessary treatment. Breast cancer is a critical illness requiring continuous medical care and regular chemotherapy, which is difficult to provide under the inadequate conditions of detention.
CFJ warns that the continued detention of Radwa without providing essential medical care is a blatant violation of her right to life and health, increasing the risk of irreversible deterioration in her condition.
CFJ holds Egyptian authorities, represented by the Ministry of Interior and the Prison Authority, fully accountable for Radwa Yasser’s life, urging them to fulfill their legal and humanitarian obligations toward prisoners, including providing necessary healthcare. CFJ stresses the urgent need for Radwa’s immediate release to enable her to receive the required treatment, warning that any delay could endanger her life and constitute a clear violation of human rights guaranteed by national and international laws.
