Country review

country review

As part of its ongoing commitment to monitoring and documenting human rights conditions, the Committee for Justice (CFJ) presents this Country Review report, which aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the key human rights developments in the countries under our coverage, with a particular focus on the Sahel and North Africa regions.

These reports review the human rights situation in the relevant countries during the period extending from the end of the previous session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights to the current session, highlighting the main events, violations, and shifts that have impacted the human rights landscape, whether through the escalation of crises or the emergence of signs of improvement, wherever applicable.

This review particularly focuses on documenting issues related to the deterioration of human rights conditions amidst armed conflicts, political crises, the rise of authoritarian practices, and legal and institutional transformations in the Sahel and North African countries.

Through this work, the Committee for Justice seeks to deliver an objective assessment based on field documentation and systematic analysis, carried out either through our own teams or in collaboration with our civil society and human rights partners across the different countries. This aims to strengthen advocacy efforts before African and

international mechanisms and to shed light on protection priorities and intervention needs in these sensitive regions.
